I was feeling floral as I joined with other ladies at the Bloom and Wild flower arranging workshop. To learn how to prepare, arrange and pack hand-tied bouquets from a trained Bloom and Wild florist.

During the hour and a half class, advice was given on the flowers, which would be included in the bouquet and why it had been chosen. All the materials were laid out on arrival at the VOX Studios, London where there was an enviable light space for floristry and a rather pretty pink kitchen.
The group of lovely ladies at the event were all keen to learn something new and get creative with flowers. Some ladies were looking to learn to provide flowers for their daughter's weddings. Others like myself wanted to wrap homegrown flowers or locally brought British flowers into beautiful bouquets.

Rachel is head of workshops at Bloom and Wild was all smiles as she began the session. As we ran through hero flowers, accent flowers, fillers, accent colours, and second accent colours. Rachel also discussed the layers of flowers into a bouquet via a circling motion. Hero flowers are single-headed flowers such as roses, multiple heads for example, are flowers like the Alstroemeria. Flowers can add height like snapdragons and we added texture by Sea Lavender as it was semi-dry.
We Learned how to prepare the flowers by removing leaves which will be below the waterline and how to spiral layer and twist the flowers was really interesting. With a glass of prosecco in hand, we added the finishing touches to our boxed bouquets. It was a delight to take the beautiful arrangements home, mine is still blooming on my kitchen table.

- Take time to choose your flowers and foliage, picking colours to enhance the overall theme
- Where possible add texture, semi-drying plants or unusual leaves can be good for this element
- Ensure flowers like tulips have space to grow as they will continue to grow and will need headspace in the bouquet
- Wrapping is for presentation but also to protect the flowers when traveling
